"Water for Elephants" Review

0 Title: "Water for Elphants"
Director: Francis Lawrence
Writer: Richard Lagravenese (Scritp), Sara Gruen (novel)
Stars: Robert Pattinson, Reese Witherspoon, Cristoph Waltz
Released: 2011
When Jacob Jankowski, recently orphaned and suddenly adrift, jumps onto a passing train, he enters a world of freaks, drifters, and misfits, a second-rate circus struggling to survive during the Great Depression, making one-night stands in town after endless town. A veterinary student who almost earned his degree, Jacob is put in charge of caring for the circus menagerie. It is there that he meets Marlena, the beautiful young star of the equestrian act, who is married to August, the charismatic but twisted animal trainer. He also meets Rosie, an elephant who seems untrainable until he discovers a way to reach her.

What I love

This movie made me cringe repetitively. I loved it. It made me feel everything. Pattinson did an excellent job. I was expecting more of Witherspoon, but her role alone was pretty weak in comparison to others. The beginning of this movie was weak in my opinion, with the flashback seeming stale, but by the end it was totally working for me. The end wasn't a depressor either, which is a nice change.

What I hate

The romance throughout the movie was a big weak until the end when it was just put on too thick. I might have missed some of the romantic tension earlier throughout the movie, but it seems to have lacked in that. Other than that, nothing else can be commented on.

Overall

Must see? YES!
Would you see it again? YES!
Recomended for fans of romance, though not necessarally chick-flick watchers.
