"Interview with the Vampire" Review

Title: "Interview with the Vampire"
Director: Neil Jordan
Writer: Anne Rice (screenplay and novel)
Stars: Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, and Antonio Banderas
Released: 1994
It hadn't even been a year since a plantation owner named Louis had lost his wife in childbirth. Both his wife and the infant died, and now he has lost his will to live. A vampire named Lestat takes a liking to Louis and offers him the chance to become a creature of the night: a vampire. Louis accepts, and Lestat drains Louis' mortal blood and then replaces it with his own, turning Louis into a vampire. Louis must learn from Lestat the ways of the vampire.

What I Love

It took me a good two viewings for me to fully appreciate this movie. It's certainly not a "Twilight" vampire movie. I love the way this movie's story is told, starting at the end. I like that everything is very acurate for the time period, ex: change in clothing, styles, ect. The casting is brilliant as well, couldn't have chosen better people if they tried.

My favorite aspect would have to be the ending. It really brings everything full circle, and leaving the viewer to question what's going to happen next in a good way. Not a cliffhanger, more of an "oh no not again" feeling that's actaully ironicly funny and satisfiying.

What I Hate

One thing that seemed a bit over the top was the blood and gore. That was taken a bit too far, in my opinion. I'm not a fan of blood in generally and found myself looking away frequently. It could have been turned down a bit.

Overall

Must see? Not necessarally
Would you see it again? Yes!
